Southern Belly BBQ in Columbia

First off the atmosphere was really cool. Had a modern westerny feel. Got the King Kahuna and the D'Jango and both were spectacular. Each came with fries and a BBQ sauce that paired perfectly with the sandwiches. Perfect combo of ingredients on each sandwich. Would recommend if your in the university area.

Some of the best pulled pork in Columbia, hands down. I first became a fan of this restaurant when they were only operating at their old location on Rosewood Drive and decided it was time to write a review. Since then I was only pleasantly surprised that they were able to open 2 new locations around the Columbia area.The menu is simple; a selection of mouth watering, slow-cooked pull pork sandwiches with practically any combination of unique toppings to include jalapenos, roasted red peppers, pineapple, bacon banana peppers and more. The sandwiches are a creative and fresh take on the classic pulled pork sandwich. Each delicious and with their own homemade sauce designed to fully compliment the toppings and/or "theme" of the sandwich. Choices of sides are coleslaw, chips or fries. Simple and delicious, The Southern Belly BBQ is sure to be a staple of Columbia for a long time.

Amazing food! I've had the Traditional with Midas sauce, spicy D'jango (not that spicy), and the Wookie. You gotta be hungry for that Wookie tho! The staff here is always nice and helpful. They have indoor and outdoor seating, but they weren't able to take cash payment the last time I went. No biggie cuz their food is awesome.

It's a little different BBQ place. Some unique combos on the sandwiches. Good overall, and a friendly staff.

I love gone here before and loved it, but today I went and took family from out of town and the waitress was outside talking to a friend(which is fine), once she saw us she welcomed us in and took our drink orders. The problem is she had been petting a dog and did not wash her hands before getting our drinks. We left without getting anything.

Good food. Great service. The atmosphere was a little dark. Family enjoyed the meal.

I’ve come here several times, and each time has been great. There’s not usually a wait, the BBQ is always delicious, and the decor is very nice. I’d undoubtedly recommend this place to anyone who enjoys BBQ sandwiches.I have only a few minor complaints. 1) there’s not a whole lot of options on the menu, and 2) the tables can be a bit dirty. The menus aren’t much of an issue since even I found several sandwiches I liked despite a picky eater, but don’t expect much of a variety. The food itself is pretty messy too, so you’re going to need to clean up in the bathroom afterward, but that’s to be expected from BBQ anyway.I wish the tables were kept a little cleaner, but it’s honestly not bad. That’s the only thing keeping this from 5 stars, and i’d still recommend it to anyone in the area.

Excellent. Just wish the fryer was working since I wanted to try the curly fries. I had the Southern Belly Tip sandwich with the incredible Alabama white sauce.

Far from impressed. The bbq was ok but far from the premium priced charged. Service was far from stellar. For sides we were offered curly fries OR chips and cole slaw. Curly fries were very crispy so if you don't like crispy/over cooked fries then avoid. Cole slaw was very watery. Also you get to eat out of rather small basket line with aluminum foil, how about giving people plates at $12 a meal?

Simply Breathtaking. Took several days to gather myself after having a lunch here. Fantastic, authentic, BBQ food. EXPLOSIVE sauces. Fries curled to perfection. Did I mention the sauces? This place is a must visit if in Columbia.

My friend and I split the big Kahuna and the Southern Belly. Both were really good, especially the sauces.

The pork was moist and tender with nice smoked flavor. Wide selection of sauces. I prefer the mustard based one.

Dirty college bar with 5 types of pulled Pork sandwiches. No service. Sandwich was good but took a hour to get it. Very dissapointed that I was fooled by a nice website. Got off 77 to find this disjointed place staffed with college girls who have not figured out about working for tips.

The sandwich was good, the sauce was fine, but for the price I paid, I would've expected more. They need to revamp their menu with not only more sides, but better ones??? Service was ok at best, two young ladies with extremely short shorts on, and was given refills on my soda but no additional ice. Don't believe I would repeat.

Randomly came across this place without checking reviews and decided to stop in for a late night dinner. The menu is basically a couple appetizers and a selection of sandwiches, and then they also serve beer and alcohol. The sandwiches are FANTASTIC. Huge portions of pork bbq. I had the "King Kahuna" sandwich and loved every bite of it. Grilled pineapple and onions on top of it were excellent. Served with a delicious sauce as well. Highly recommend!

Passing through Columbia South Carolina and this was a must stop place in the city. They have a very simple menu. Sandwiches. Thursday when she was born extremely good and if I'm ever passing through Columbia South Carolina again I'll make sure that I stop.

Absolutely delicious BBQ. I do agree that there should be more sides to choose from since the sandwiches will run you about $10 (why I gave 4 instead of 5 stars). Once you get your food the service seems to fizzle out, I have to go to the bar and request a drink refill most times we've been there.. However, the servers are friendly and we always get our food quickly.

for a local BBQ place, they are doing about everything you can do right, orginal sauces, all that I've tried have been great, simple menu that still has variety, I live 2 hours away near Charlotte and any time I find my self near by I make an excuse to get in here

Don't wait to be seated, just walk in and sit down. They serve barbeque sandwiches, and that's pretty much it! Real simple menu means they know what they're doing, and they indeed do it well. My only issue was how dank and a little dingey the restaurant was, but overall a good place to eat.

Great Bbq sandwiches. Went to this place based on a picture I saw of a sandwich and it did not disappoint. Food comes out not and fresh. I’ve tried a few and taken friends there and they have all loved them. It has become one of my go to spots.

This place is spectacular. We make sure to find top Bbq anywhere we can when we travel. Found this place on a top list of Columbia. It is not a typical bbq joint. They have a bunch of amazing sandwiches with mostly BBQ pork. This is a must visit place. My wife had the Grilled cheese. This is a grilled cheese with pulled pork. If you like grilled cheese and BBQ. You won't find a better sandwich. I had the Django which was a spicier sandwich. It was excellent. The spicy sauce was a great addition. My daughter had the Southern belly dipper. It is paired with an Alabama White sauce. It is also knock your socks off. My son had a plain grill cheese. It was one of the best I had ever tasted. He normally eats middle only of a grilled cheese. He smoke every crumb. Honestly, the Django was the 4th best which is nuts because it was great.I can see why this one is climbing top Bbq list of SC. It's deserved.

Amazing food! Delicious bread to go with that meat! Not alot of fat at all. Higher price for better quality anyday.

We saw Southern Belly BBQ on Yelp on our way back home from Asheville, NC. Great BBQ, liked by the entire family! I had the signature sauce traditional sandwich. I ordered the pork on the side for my daughters grilled cheese. My son lived the Southern Belly.

Awesome place. Must check it out. Order your sandwich and then choose the sauce. Be ready! You’ll need a nap afterward:)

Food was great small place and parking is tough.

The staff was very welcoming and friendly. The food, specifically the Django was phenomenal. Curly fries, two sauces, and sweet tea made it some pretty spectacular BBQ.

Came to Columbia from Augusta for a day trip with my fiance for her Birthday, and we just happened across this little gem of a BBQ joint. Great service! Amazing food! Great atmosphere! We will definitely be dropping by the next time we are in Columbia and I highly recommend it for all.

My sandwich was killer, on a French bread roll with sauce on the side to let the meat speak for itself.

Great food. Prices weren't bad and it's not too crowded. Fast service though and good waiters. Kind of small and hard to miss if you don't know what you're looking for. Parking isn't always available and you'll have to pay.

First time visiting this restaurant and it was a very pleasant atmosphere. It was not busy and the takeout service was fast. We got the pulled pork grill cheese sandwich which came with fries and some bbq sauce. The only thing is parking was limited on the street where the restaurant was located. We had to park across the street. Traffic was moderate on the road this evening. I would recommend this place only if you are someone who likes pulled pork sandwiches.

They jacked up my order. Then when I called to get it fixed, they act like they couldn’t pick up the phone. Totally unprofessional!!! How difficult is it to match the order with the receipt before giving the order to the ubereats driver?

I've been to a few BBQ places around the Columbia area over the years and this is hands down the best I've had. Parking can be a pain downtown, but definitely worth it. A good variety to suit almost anyone's taste buds unlike others that only offer 3 choices.

I stumbled on this restaurant 3 years ago at its previous location. If we lived closer, I’d be a regular. We recommend it to visitors as a place to get a local sense of food, while also being just a little edgy.

Visited while in Columbia for a football game. Simple menu of various pork sandwiches with different toppings and bbq sauces. Food was amazing. Cooked to perfection , great taste and sauces spectacular . We tried a few different ones and each had unique flavor,one as good as the next. Staff very friendly and efficient. A must stop if you are in town!
